The Academic Board is the supreme academic authority of the Polytechnic; it dictates the overall policy of the academic programmes of the institution. The Board is made up of all Directors of Schools, Heads of Departments, Programme Co-ordinators and all Chief Lecturers. The Rector is the Chairman, with the Deputy Rector and Polytechnic Librarian as members. The Registrar is the Secretary to the Academic Board.

Academic results from Schools and Departments are considered and approved by the Academic Board before they are released to students. The Board also undertakes regular review of the various curricula and updates the academic policies of the Polytechnic towards the enhancement and maintenance of standards. The Polytechnic with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) undergoes regular audit of its programmes.

As part of its policy towards the maintenance of standards, the Polytechnic has in place various internal control mechanisms for quality assurance procedures. All programmes are regularly subjected to rigorous internal audit and balances.
